Travel Information
Transportation to SND Bratislava
By plane
When traveling to the 32nd International Carbohydrate Symposium the closest international airport is M. R. Štefánik Airport (Bratislava Airport, BTS). It is located approximately 9 km from the city centre. It offers direct connections to many European destinations and is the most convenient airport for arrivals into Bratislava.

Another frequently used international hub is Vienna International Airport, located about 45–60 minutes from Bratislava by road, offering a wider range of intercontinental flights.

From both airports, delegates can reach the SND venue by taxi, ride-hailing services (such as Bolt or Uber), or private transfer.
From airport to the SND
From Bratislava Airport, public transport bus 61 connects the airport with the city centre and main transport hubs, where passengers can transfer to trams or buses heading directly to the SND area (Šafárikovo námestie or Nová budova SND stops).

Ticket info: You must buy a ticket before boarding and validate it once on board. Single city tickets are valid across buses, trams, and trolleybuses in Bratislava.
Taxi: You can use apps like Bolt, Hopin Taxi or Liftago to book and price the ride in advance — often cheaper and more transparent than taking a taxi waiting at the rank.
Avoid unmarked street taxis, as they may charge higher fixed prices.
From Vienna Airport to Bratislava city centre: Vienna Airport is connected to Bratislava city centre (the main bus station, NIVY) by bus services running every 20–30 minutes (e.g. Slovak Lines, FlixBus; fare: 8–10 EUR). The ride takes about 50 minutes.
By train
The main railway station in Bratislava is Bratislava hlavná stanica (Bratislava hl.st.), which connects the city with major European cities such as Vienna, Prague, Budapest, and Warsaw.

From the station, visitors can reach the Slovak National Theatre within approximately 10–15 minutes by public transport:
- Trams (lines 1, 3, or 4) → to Šafárikovo námestie, about 5-minute walk to SND.
- Trolleybus 40 → directly to Nová budova SND (New SND Building).
Public transport in Bratislava operates roughly 04:20–23:00, and night buses run after that timeframe if required.
By car
The Slovak National Theatre is located in the city centre and is easily accessible via main city roads and the D1 motorway.
On-site parking is available in a paid parking area next to the new SND building. Short-term parking (up to 15 minutes) is free, while standard parking is charged per hour. Visitors attending performances or events may receive discounted parking (e.g., 1 hour free via the SND box office).
Driving times:
- From Bratislava Airport: ~15–25 minutes
- From Vienna Airport: ~45–60 minutes
- From Bratislava city centre: ~5–10 minutes
Navigation apps (Google Maps, Waze) work reliably in Bratislava.
By bus
Bratislava has multiple bus hubs (e.g., Mlynské Nivy or Most SNP stops).
From Most SNP, you can either walk (10–15 minutes) to SND along the riverbank and city centre, or take a short tram ride to Šafárikovo námestie and walk (5 minutes) to SND.
Please note that there are also night travel options available: after 23:00, night buses (prefixed with “N”, like N33) run on reduced schedules, but they still connect central points.
